Today would have been Andy Warhol’s 84th birthday, so in his honor I’ve made this very quick sketch. I’m sure he would have loved it ;p
A lot of people don’t understand Andy Warhol as an artist, they may not even consider him one. These people are missing the point. After taking contemporary art with the very talented Meg Jackson, I now appreciate artists like Andy Warhol and Jackson Pollock much more. First of all, they dared to be different in a very “out of the box” way, which is incredibly hard to do as an artist. It’s hard to be unique, it’s hard to stand up for what you feel is aesthetically, or artistically pleasing because Art can be oh so very subjective. The second thing I am able to appreciate more is that artists like him opened doors for us, the new generation of artists, and we can’t thank him enough. I can’t thank you enough Andy Warhol for making pop art, commercial art and even boring six hour looped videos of the same thing “art”, why? Because now I can do WHATEVER the hell I want and be confident it will be accepted by at least some group of people as “art”. Thank you and happy birthday Andy!
